| 1) INTERNATIONAL SPEECH COMPETITION IN BAHASA MELAYU PRIME MINISTER’S CUP | ||
The Malaysian government supports all efforts in promoting the Malay language and literature at the international level in accordance with the national aspiration of making Malay a world language for knowledge and communication, through institutional and governmental networking and cooperation. To raise the status of Bahasa Melayu internationally, the International Speech Competition Prime Minister’s Cup (formerly the Deputy Prime Minister’s Cup) is held annually. This has proven to be a success in spreading the use of Malay to the international arena. It is well-known that Malay is the fifth largest language spoken in the world, and thus is significant in contributing to and shaping human civilisation. This competition is testimony to its capability as one the world’s main languages; in addition to being one of the elective subjects in several well-known universities in the world.

2) NATIONAL STUDENT CONSULTATIVE COUNCIL (NSCC) |
||
The National Student Consultative Council (NSCC) is a platform created by the government in 1999, chaired by the then Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, as a way of enabling university students to present their ideas and perspectives on any issue. The NSCC is held in private twice a year. Four representatives from each public and private HEIs attend the meetings comprising the President, student representatives, representatives of minority group and student leaders appointed by the Vice-Chancellors/Deputy Rectors (Students Affairs and Alumni Unit). The NSCC serves as an avenue for the Federal Government and student leaders from public and private HEIs to share knowledge and exchange views on current issues in the country. In these meetings, students are free to put forward opinions and questions including matters pertaining to administration and government policies. Before the meeting proper, a pre-NSCC meeting will be held to enable the council to refine working papers before presenting them to the Deputy Prime Minister. It is also an opportunity to resolve any student issues that involve MOHE management such as scholarships, PTPTN and student welfare. |
