STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (PUBLIC HEI SRC)
s

As the nation’s human capital, today’s graduates are the nation’s prospective leaders. The Student Representative Council (SRC) is one of the highest student organizations at the universities which works towards the development of graduates who are able to become leaders and individuals who excel in every aspect.

Subsection 48(10) of the University and University College Act 1971 (Amended 2009) states the aims and functions of the SRC, among which are:

(10)

  1. To foster the spirit of One Council from among University students;

  2. To organize and oversee student welfare facilities at the University, subject to the directive of the Vice Chancellor, including recreation facilities, spiritual and religious activities and provision of food and drinks;

  3. To submit appeals to the Vice Chancellor concerning the living conditions and work status of university students;

  4. To represent the relevant body that may, according to a particular Act passed by the Board for that purpose, be appointed to carry out the student welfare activities at the universities; and

  5. To carry out any other activities as determined by the Board from time to time.
The election process of SRC members at each Public HEI in Malaysia is an HEI annual event aimed at selecting new MPP leadership to represent all university students in line with the requirements and provisions in the 1971 University and College Act (Revised 2009) (Subsection 48 (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) & (6)).

The selection process is crucial in renewing the MPP leadership at the university and to produce more young and talented leaders to head the nation’s future leadership. This selection process will also provide valuable exposure to the university students through the “elections” held and conducted to select student leaders who will be the mediators between the university students and the university management, MOHE and the community.
