2u2i Program

The Malaysian Education Development Plan 2015-2025 (Higher Education) (PPPM (PT)) has been designed to produce talented, skilled and knowledgeable graduates who are ready to meet 21st century challenges. In line with the 1st aspiration of PPPM (PT) in delivering holistic, balanced and entrepreneurial graduates, flexible education has been introduced through a 3 + 1 or 2 + 2 program taking into account off-campus or industry-based learning.

The 2u2i academic program combines academic learning and real-time learning applications in the workplace. It enhances experiential learning that can be effectively explored off campus or in an industry where real work experience can be provided by relevant parties.

In addition, the 2u2i academic program provides opportunities for graduates to learn and earn. Through the 2u2i academic program, graduates gain relevant industry experience in the field of study; thus bridging the gap between industry and graduate requirements created by HEIs.

Active and constructive experience enhances the desired attributes of graduates, especially self-confidence, innovation and creativity, professionalism, and graduate communication skills. In addition, the functional skills of graduates such as critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, social skills, emotional intelligence and consulting skills can be enhanced. Overall, the 2u2i academic program is capable of strengthening the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains of graduates.

All of these features will produce industry-aware and industry ready graduates that will further enhance the marketability of graduates. This aim is achieved through collaboration between HEIs and industry in designing and delivering 2u2i academic programs directly, structured and formal so that academic programs offered are always relevant, competitive and industry driven.

The 2u2i brand is used to describe the mode of study in which Learning and Teaching takes place on and off campus in a variety of combinations such as 3u1i, 2u2i, 2u1i, and 1½u1i. The letter 'u' in 2u2i refers to the university in which the term is used to represent all HEIs including universities, colleges, polytechnics and community colleges. Whereas the letter 'i' refers to the industry in which learning takes place in the real world of work. On-campus and off-campus learning can be implemented in a variety of year-end combinations devoted to learning at IPTs such as 3+1 (3u1i), 2+2 (2u2i), 2+1 (2u1i), dan 1½+1 (1½u1i).
