GAP Year
1.0 Introduction
The Gap Year Program has been announced to meet the 1st Malaysia Education Development Plan 2015 - 2025 (Higher Education) or PPPM (PT). The ultimate goal is to produce a holistic, balanced and entrepreneurial graduate. Gap Year is a program that is conducted for students in a time of self-reflection and self-discovery through volunteerism. Gap Year is designed with privileges that allow students to postpone their studies to carry out volunteer work planned with selected agencies..
2.0 GAP YEAR PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
2.1 NATIONAL SERVICE GAP YEAR
The program will place students interested in the agencies of the uniformed bodies of the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM). The program is organized by two UAPs, the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and the University of Technology MARA (UiTM). Students may choose to volunteer at any of these agencies for one (1) academic year.
2.2 VOLUNTEERISM GAP YEAR
This program allows students to undertake volunteer activities for one (1) semester to one (1) academic year in accordance with the program offered by UAP with the participating agencies. In addition, students can choose the programs offered in the shorter term during the semester by applying for the Summer Volunteerism program.

2.3 PUBLIC GAP YEAR
The program is open to students who wish to participate in general volunteer programs such as sports, entrepreneurship, skills development, tourism and other activities. Students' planned activities should meet the requirements set by their respective universities. The minimum duration of the program is one (1) semester and the maximum duration is one (1) academic calendar year. The program does not have a specific structure such as the National Service Gap Year or Volunteer Gap Year program. Students are free to choose programs that are useful and value addition skills.
